New vWallpapers from Touch Podium

by Eric March on May 4, 2008 at 10:44 pm

I have to admit, I really dig vWallpaper. I know it’s a battery killer, but since I don’t sit on my home screen very often — unless docked, anyway — I figure it’ll work out fine. There are a lot of great vWallpapers out there, but I have to admit, there are a lot of crap ones, too. The ones that bug me the most are the ones that don’t loop properly, or don’t bother to fade out and in before looping. It’s rather jarring to watch a sudden jump back to the beginnig

So I’ve been spending some time looking for more video wallpapers — whether already converted to vWallpaper or for things like Vista Dreamscenes. To that end I’ve grabbed a bunch of ones that I liked and converted them myself, editing them where needed so that they looped properly. And now I get to share them with you.

After the break, you’ll find 20 new vWallpapers that I just got done editing and converting. Pretty well all of these were plundered from Vista Dreamscenes, which are a natural target for vWallpaper conversion. Unfortunately some of the best ones are in .dream format for which there are no converters. However, there are plenty of still pretty decent WMV and MPG scenes to grab, so I did those. All of these vWallpapers have been cropped or otherwise made to fit to 320×480, and those that were not already looped have been properly looped for best effect. The loop point is still a little jumpy in the current version of vWallpaper, but rest assured the videos themselves loop seamlessly, so when that gets fixed up the videos should look better when looping.

Without further ado, I present to you our own collection of 20 new vWallpapers for your enjoyment. All are in MP4 format. Click the read link below, check out the screenshots to see what each one is about, left-click the download links to play the video (Quicktime plugin required), and right click and select “save-as” to download it. How do I download them? The only option I see is to view a preview.

    Lost interest in vwallpaper when he changed it to need that skrew common nonsense. Program was an amusing distraction, but not worth losing battery power over. I’ll stick with Cloverfield wallpaper:)

    @Dustin
    On Windows: right-click on the preview/download link and select “Save Link As…” (or “Save Target As…” in IE). On a Mac: Use Option+Click on the preview/download link to download.

    @Unc
    The Skrew Common thing does make things a little more complicated, but I didn’t really mind. It worked, and I rather like it.

    Thanks Eric. Worked. Great wallpapers…now to figure out how to get them to work. For some reason I am having bad luck in that department. I uploaded them to the correct directory, it just doesnt show on my iPod.

    Just make sure they are in /private/var/Mobile/Media/Skrew/Videos/
    No need to set any permissions or anything. If you’re using 0.7 or above, make sure it’s installed properly with the SkrewCommon package installed before vWallpaper. (If necessary, uninstall both SkrewCommon and vWallpaper, then install them again in the correct order. I had to do that the first time before it would work.)

    Thank you, Hax, though we may get busy from time to time with our own daily lives, we to try and keep pace as best we can. I’m glad you enjoyed the vWallpapers. When I can find more nice ones and have the time I’ll convert more for a new collection. I’m also planning a Top 10 roundup at some point to list my favourites, so that should be good, too. :)
