Zibri’s ZiPhone Software Successfully Jailbreaks Firmware 2.0

by Jody Mitoma on May 2, 2008 at 3:09 pm

Zibri officially announces that his upcoming version of the oh-so-popular ZiPhone software is able to unlock and jailbreak firmware 2.0 successfully.

Zibri states:

“Firmware 2.0 will require a new iTunes version and a new “mobiledevice” framework. If it were for me I would not even bother to hack this version but I know many of you are going to upgrade so I will release a new ziphone version after the official release. I already patched activation (lockdownd) and unlock / Fake IMEI (baseband firmware).”

Some pre-release editions of iPhone OS 2.0 can already be unlocked and jailbroken with the use of Pwnage, a tool exploits a low-level vulnerability in the iPhone’s boot process to allow the installation of custom OS files. This has allowed users to install pre-release versions of the iPhone OS, such as OS 2.0, which normally require expressed authorization and a special signature from Apple.

It isn’t available yet. So far the only forthcoming jailbreaks for iPhone 2.0 will be coming from Pwnage (no release date yet) and Geohot (supposedly Tuesday at 6pm is its release date).

lets just make one thing clear. you didnt accidnetly update your phone. you just assumed there would be a good unlocking tool to released, i would advice you to downgrade you phone to a 1.1.4 version and 3.6 baseband this can be done via itunes 7.6 or erlier. if you wish to jailreak your firmware 2.0 then you could use, pwmage (mac) or winpwn (windows xp/vista) please be aware that messing around with your iphones bootloader, may brick your phone and ziphone is a very risky tool to be using, unless you understand fully what you are doing.

Ziphone is the easiest and safest way i’ve experienced to jailbreak an iphone. Keep up the gud work Zibri and we are looking forward to Ziphone 3.0

Well, All true… I used Winpwn Tool n messed up with my phone….
It got strucked in DFU mode and iTunes 7.7 refused to restore the phone with the customized firmware.
But thanks to ZiPhone, My phone rebooted itself in normal mode with just one click.
I’ll be waiting for zibri’s Ziphone for firmaware 2.0, till then Njoy 1.1.4 !!!!!!!!

It is actually quite easy to ‘accidentally’ upgrade. Everytime I plug my phone into iTunes, it prompts me to upgrade (Cancel, Download Only, Download and Install). I’m usually pretty easy when Apple asked me to upgrade, but I’ve been extra careful with this one, because I can’t do without my phone.

ZiPhone for Firmware 2.0 has not yet been released. You can use the latest version of WinPwn if you wish to jailbreak firmware 2.0. Note that WinPwn 2.0.0.3 does not currently jailbreak the just-released firmware 2.0.1.

wait will this work on itouch 2.0?

  13. Eric March said:

When it’s released — if it’s released — it will. In the mean time, PwnageTool and QuickPwn are your best bets.

does ziphone 3.0 work for an itouch that has the 2.0 software?

can i use my iphone as modem

  16. Jody Mitoma said:

I’ve personally never heard of that being possible, LUIS65.

When will a jailbreak be available for 2.1? I had to upgrade it after winpwn pwned my ipod.

  18. Eric March said:

We don’t know when, but I’m sure the Dev Team is hard at work on it. The last QuickPwn (2.0.2) came out pretty quickly, so unless there are significant internal changes with this upgrade then I doubt it will take very long.
