Today’s Woot/Yahoo deal of the day is selling an iPod Touch for just $224.99 (including shipping).
The deal description reads:
Wait – a popular product on Sellout.Woot, bearing a reputable brand name, that isn’t obsolete yet? And it’s not April 1st? Have we been hacked by a “real” online store or something? Oh, wait – it’s refurbished. That explains it…
Product info page reads:
Can Touch This
We understand. It’s hard to ignore the stink of hype. It’s difficult to disregard the dancing silhouettes, and the Steve Jobs smirk, and Bono, and “I’m a Mac”, and the saturation media coverage every time something stumbles out of Cupertino with a lowercase i before its name. You’d be perfectly within your rights to permanently X Apple from your world the way Charles Manson X’ed himself from ours. We’re tempted to do the same, pretty much every day.
But the thing is…the iPod Touch is actually, well, not too bad.
Maybe even good.
Possibly even awesome.
Hey, believe us, it hurts us more to say than it hurts you to hear. We’ve tried and tried to find some reason to hate the damn thing on its own merits. But man. A full web browser, a 3.5” widescreen display, that super-scientific-gyro-atomic motor that rotates the screen content when you turn the iPod Touch, all in a sturdy and attractive package? The best we could come up with hate-wise was the fact that people look kind of goofy when they do that little pinchy-finger navigation move, and the high price. And we just killed that last reason ourselves by offering it for eighty bucks below list.
So while we’re standing by our ridicule of the pinchy-finger maneuver, it’s just not enough. We give up. Fine, iPod Touch, you win. You’re wonderful, you’re marvelous, you’re God’s gift to media pirates. But don’t get too smug, Apple – you’ll never win us over to the iPod Shuffle.
Warranty: 60 day Third Party Limited Warranty
