CubicMan 0.0.2 Gets Major Overhaul

by Eric March on May 1, 2008 at 7:12 pm

CubicMan 0.0.2I was going to save this one for the next Touching Up, but the more I delved into it, the more I realized that this was much more than a bite-sized news morsel. Plus, I really like this game, and this update has just made me like it even more.

For those of you familiar with my original post on the first release of CubicMan are in for a treat. Despite the release being a mere 1/100th increment of a whole version number, it has undergone some big changes.

  • The first thing you’ll notice is that the entire UI has been given a complete makeover. New springboard icon, new menus and buttons — overall, far more slick looking than the original.
  • New options menu with toggles for a new accelerometer control method, landscape and portrait mode support for the accelerometer control, sound toggle, and a Quick Move option.
  • Yes, I said sound! CubicMan now has some great sound effects to accompany your gameplay.
  • Enhanced graphics. No more translucent block and flat tiles; the graphics are much nicer now, with texture mapping everywhere and an overall nicer design.
  • New gameplay elements. Bringing in more of the original Bloxorz features, there are platform toggles (both rollover and end-only), weak tiles, and teleports.
  • 15 new levels! There’s finally more game to play, with a total of 25 levels now, and the additional levels are definitely more challenging.
  • New menu button at the bottom of each level
  • New level select screen to allow you to start at any level you’ve previously reached

Considering this is still an early version, I have to say that I am duly impressed and can’t wait to see what Dr. Watson brings to his next 1/100th of a version number. Check out a ream of screenshots below for the goods.
