Danstaface Pimps Out With iToday+vWallpaper

vwallpaper.pngDanstaface is all about pimpin’ out your iPod. The dudes behind the Ringtones app have been hard at work on a duo of new apps sure to put some wow factor into your iPod Touch or iPhone.

The first, called iToday, brings the uCalendar functionality seen in Caterpillar to your device in a much more freely availalble form, allowing you to view upcoming events straight from your lock screen. For Windows Mobile switchers like me, this is definitely a nice feature to have.

Of perhaps greater interest — at least for the bling factor — a companion app called vWallpaper. If you are familiar with DreamScenes for Windows Vista, then you know what this is about: It gives you the ability to play a looped video right on your springboard’s background instead of just having some plain static wallpaper. Without doubt, this is something to make your friends jealous over, though CPU usage and battery drainage are probably a bit dear when using it, so this isn’t the sort of thing you’re likely to keep active at all times. Fortunately it’s easy to disable and re-enable when you want to. Note however that Summerboard users will need to turn off “Theme Wallpaper” in SMBPrefs before the video wallpaper will work.

I’ve done up a tutorial on how and where to copy new videos to use as your background, as well as previewed all 12 videos that I’ve found (including the ones that come with it).

Both iToday and vWallpaper are currently available on the Danstaface repository (http://i.danstaface.net). Keep in mind that they are still in the early stages of development, so if you experience any problems during operation (such as has been reported of music stopping when you go back to the home screen, or bluetooth possibly not transmitting audio to your headset while vWallpaper is active) know that they will probably be fixed up in later versions.

Added the Danstaface repository (http://i.danstaface.net) found the vWallpaper but I still can’t find the iToday .app

Are you sure the iToday is out ???

Could you post a link to those videos?

Funny, I actually planned to host that pack, but with all the time I spent doing the video and the article and stuff, I completely forgot, and now I’m at work without access to it.

So, here’s the rapidshare link I got it from:

This is a very cool, but not practical, i bet this app, playing videos constantly, will kill your battery, nuff said!

It doesn’t work for me. I choose the default fire video thing, and I have wallpaper turned off in Summerboard, and I get nothing. Oh well.

    Dustin:
did you restart your iPhone/iPod Touch?
cuz that’s what I forgot to do :P

  7. Dustin Schriffert said:

AH! Thanks a ton Edwards, I just thought you had to restart springboard for it to work.
But it is pretty glitchy. Every time I swipe my finger to go to the next page of apps, the video goes crazy and turns like purple and blue and freezes but I suppose it still is a work in progress so I’ll give it a chance.

OK now I added videos from the pack above, and they wont show up in the application. They show up in my SSH program, but not in the list on my iPod. I am on 1.1.2 and I followed the video exactly =/

Try placing the videos in both locations. Apparently some have said that this works for them for whatever reason.

  10. Edwards said:

that really weird because mine works perfectly on 1.1.4, there must be alot of bugs in it working on 1.1.2 or below, but still, i thought springboard used up enough battery as it is, so i got rid of it, a shame cuz i did like it alot, oh well :P

  12. Eric March said:

Thanks dooder. I’ve added that one to the vWallpaper 0.5 entry in Touching Up VII.

Eric, I tried placing videos in both sections, I think this application just doesn’t work like it does on 1.1.3/4
Either it is a bug in the app for those firmwares, or just something that will be fixed with newer releases, it is after all still in v0.5 so I am sure with newer updates, things will improve.
