Nike+iPod Patent Shows Heart Rate, Temperature and Hydration Monitors

There have been complaints about the current Nike+iPod hardware not doing enough. It looks like Apple and Nike are listening to us, implamenting new features in the iPhone * iPod Touch version of their tracking device. The users are asking for the ability to measure heart rate, body temperature, and other factors runners and health freaks care about. Nike’s latest patent for the upcoming Nike+ gear expands on the current concept, and features all kinds of sensors over a person’s body, even possibly adding a GPS receiver so you can automatically map out the path you took on your run (or walk). Cool!
Not only so, but Nike is also working on sensors which will be able to ‘talk’ to exercise machines to fetch data. How neat is that? Gizmodo says to not get too excited just yet however, because Nike’s a little slow when it comes to releasing new products to the masses. For example, their leaked products from January ‘07 have yet to be mass produced.
