gpSPhone 1.8.0. Beta Previewed

I’ve had a chance to get my hands on the latest best of ZodTTD’s excellent Game Boy Advance emulator for the iPhone and Touch, and I have to say, I’m quite impressed with the emulator now. It’s really maturing very well, and for those of you who complained about problems with speed, sound, compatibility — many of your complaints have been addressed here:
- Improved speed. Many games run at full-speed now, which really makes them perfectly playable. Others lag a bit, but are still very playable. There are still issues with most 3D games (Doom I/II, Driver, etc.) running one frame every few seconds, though Wolfenstein 3D (previewed in the video) works great.
- Improved compatibility. More games run now, though there are still quite a few that the emulator can’t cope with, and some games are a bit glitchy. (The text blobs in Tomb Raider Prophesy and Rayman 3, for example.)
- Improved sound. There’s still stuttering in places, but in many games sound is perfect, which is a nice bonus.
- Volume controls in settings. You can choose a volume percentage.
- Cheat code support. GameShark and Pro Action Replay cheat codes are supported. (You’ll need to check the link for instructions)
As you will see in the video below, gpSPhone 1.8.0 is a definite improvement over previous versions, and most of you shouldn’t have a whole lot to complain about — unless your particular favourite game doesn’t work. I won’t blab on any further so we can get on with the picture show.
gpSPhone 1.8.0 is currently in beta, but a public release should follow soon.
