Touching Up IV: Moleskine, BossPrefs, SpringDial, Chuck…
Posted by Eric March on April 23, 2008 at 1:05 am

You truly don’t realize just how much is going on in the iPhone and Touch scene until you have to write about it. But that’s why I started Touching Up — because there’s just too much to talk about to spend time writing separate articles for everything, and my contract states that I get at least one hour a week out of my cell.
Today, we’re going to focus on software updates and new releases, because I feel like it, and because there are a metric pantsload: TuxPuck, iNorris and iPickup Line betas, BossPrefs 1.66, Time Capsule 0.27b1, Collage 2.2, SpringDial 0.9994, Moleskine 0.3 preview, HWinfo 1.0, and MPG 1.0.2.
Aaaand GO.
MPG 1.02![]()
![]()
MPG, a handy app that lets you calculate your vehicle’s fuel efficiency and track how much you spend on gas, has been updated to 1.02. This latest version adds a pair of new languages (Spanish and Portugese) as well as a pair of new vehicle types (RV and SmartCar). You can grab it from the Ste Packaging repo (http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps/).

Moleskine 0.3 and 0.32a Video Previews
Moleskine, the notes organizer, is currently being updated to 0.3. The 0.3 video preview shows some of the great new features being added, which include the ability to attach voice notes (iPhone only), use custom icons, new scrolling and navigation options, and more. The 0.32a preview video shows how accelerometer support has been added and put to creative use.

HWInfo 1.0![]()
![]()
You can uninstall BatteryInfo and BBInfo now, because HWInfo assimilates both of them into one app. (Resistance really was futile.) Now one app will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about your battery, baseband, CPU, memory, SIM card, and where it hid the bodies. You can grab it from the Trejan source (http://trejan.com/irepo)

Collage 2.2![]()

![]()
Collage is turning into a sort of mobile Twitter, but for images. The latest version of this image sharing app lets you comment on other people’s images. There is also a new feature called Today’s Challenge, which seems to give you a particular subject to take photos of and share with the world. This one you’ll find on the main AppTapp repo.

SpringDial 0.9994
Because there weren’t enough nines in the previous version, SpringDial has received an update. Functionally, there don’t appear to be any changes, with the only esoteric new features being buttons in the main app to view the latest news on the app, and a donate button where you can send the author money for more nines. Grab it from the Ste Packaging repo (http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps/).

BossPrefs 1.67![]()
![]()
Everybody’s favourite steroid-using prefs app has been given an update to 1.67. This version fixes the way phone and airplane mode toggles work, with the bug that still allowed WiFi in airplane mode fixed, and the phone mode using the airplane mode with WiFi enabled, and now works even on non-contract carriers. There is still a minor issue with Phone Mode where you will still get a warning in Safari, but you can dismiss it and use it as normal just the same. You can grab the latest BossPrefs, not surprisingly, from the BigBoss repo (http://thebigboss.org/repo.xml).

TimeCapsule 0.27b1![]()
DataBinge’s most excellent backup app has been updated to beta version 0.27, adding Locations, Lockbox, MPG, PockeyMoney, Preferences, Pumped, and Springboard prefs to the litany of applications it is capable of backing up data from. For those who need to frequently restore, or who just want to have a failsafe in the event of catastrophic failure, TimeCapsule will save your bacon. You can grab it from their own repo (http://repo.databinge.com).

Chuck Norris Makes Apple Pay Him Subscription Revenue![]()
![]()
I woke up this morning to Chuck Norris’ clenched fist at my throat. It’s his way of making me appreciate yet another day of life that he has granted by reminding me that he could crush my windpipe with his knuckle hair. But besides that, I also woke up to find the Javascript-based iNorris beta on Installer. (Jiggy Runtime required, because Chuck Norris said so.) There’s not much to the app — it just lists a grand total of 16 Chuck Norris quotes, all in sequence (no random quotes, sorry). Being beta, I presume many more quotes and random selection will be added before its first non-beta release. At least, there had better be, or Chuck Norris will roundhouse-kick BigDaveyJ so hard the entire TouchRev team will be knocked unconscious. You can grab it from the TouchRev repo (http://touchrevteam.com/repo.xml) — if Chuck Norris doesn’t get there first.

iPickup Line Beta Love You Long Time![]()
![]()
Having trouble scoring with the ladies? Want more? Look no further, because TouchRev team member michaeljcaboose has a list of 22 Javascript-based pickup lines guaranteed to kill any hopes for a romantic evening or a quick hook-up stone dead. Apart from the subject matter, it is exactly the same as the previous app. Just don’t try using any of these lines on Chuck Norris, or he’ll pick you up, then suck out your soul through his left nostril. once again, you’ll find this on the TouchRev repo (http://touchrevteam.com/repo.xml).

TuxPuck Gets Public Beta Release![]()
![]()
Rememeber Shufflepuck Cafe? Want it on the Touch and iPhone? Well, Virtualball is gonna try to do just that, and TuxPuck is his first public attempt at doing so. It is based on the Unix clone of the game, so it doesn’t feature the original graphics or characters — in fact, in its current form it has only one opponent, and she’s pretty damn challenging. Nevertheless this is a great first release for what could be a very promising 3D air hockey game. Grab it from the iPod Touch Fans repo (http://www.touchrepo.com/repo.xml) and discuss it here.

And there goes another edition of Touching Up. Now if you’ll excuse me, Chuck Norris is trying to hit on me, so I need to be elsewhere.

um actually….
Tuxpuck was released a while ago, although it just got on a repo now. Also, the creator said that this was the last release, not a beta, because he already fixed the problems of the first release. Also, there are 2 characters, the woman you mentioned and Tux, however it is difficult to select Tux on the character selection. The trick is to slide with 2 fingers, but it doesn’t always work

“Having trouble scoring with the ladies? Want more?”
I love your sarcastic tone xD
