rRootage Explodes Onto The Small Screen

After a great deal of anticipation, iPod Touch Fans member Lazrhog has finally released his latest shmup port Lazrhog into the wild. The object of the game is deceptively simple: Take down the battleship while avoiding its barrage of bullets. No sweat, right? You haven’t played rRootage. The game uses BulletML, a markup language designed by Kenta Cho (who wrote the original Windows version of rRootage, among other things) intended to allow developers to describe bullet patterns and trajectories, which allows for a complex synchronized ballet of hot spitting death you either avoid or swallow wholesale.
Playing the game is again a simple. Drag around the screen to select a gameplay mode and level, then, while your first finger is over the level you wish to start at, tap with a second finger and the game will start. In game, there’s no need for a fire button, as your ship is constantly firing. All you need to do is drag your ship around the screen simultaneously trying to pound the battleship and avoid its barrages. Tap with a second finger and you’ll activate a shield.
The only drawback with this game is that there is no sound. In Lazrhog’s own words, “There is no sound because I suck at coding sound (I always have)” Still, despite this, the game plays exceedingly well. The graphics, frame rate and gameplay are all top notch, as good as any commercial game we’re likely to see once the App Store hits iTunes.
rRootage is available on the TouchRepo source (http://touchrepo.com/repo.xml). In the mean time, check out my video demo/review below!
