Three Months In: A Report Card

Touch Podium’s Two Month Report CardIt’s been a quarter year since I started this blog on January 14th of this year. I can’t say I regret having started this blog, at all.

Not only has this blog brought in an income (very small, mind you), but it has also improved my vocabulary and grammar slightly. Besides all of that, however, I’ve had the great opportunity to get to know Eric March - my business partner in crime - a lot better.

Eric has been very helpful these past couple months, and I am greatful for that. I am excited to spend the next few years working by his side on Touch Podium and future projects we’ve got planned.

The statistics show that we’re in fact getting more and more popular each and every day. Right now, Eric and I have a list of over 30 iPod Touch and iPhone related sources that we check almost everyday. My goal with Touch Podium is to have everything relating to the iPod Touch (and iPhone), all on one website. Each and every day this dream is becoming more and more a reality. Check out our monthly statistics below.

Age: 3 months
Blog Posts: 437 (including this one) - avg. 4.8 posts/day
Total site hits as of 04/14/08 @ 10:42pm: 240,010
Average hits/day for the month: 3,000 - 4,000
RSS subscribers: 329
E-Mail feed subscribers: 33
Affiliates: 20
Returning visitors: ~680/day

As you can see, we’ve done fairly well these past 30 days. In comparison to last months statistics, you’ll notice that we’ve actually more than doubled our number of hits within the past 30 days. That’s pretty impressive, especially considering this website is now 92 days old.

Within the past month, we’ve also more than doubled our number of blog posts. Just goes to show how much iPod Touch and iPhone news there really is out there lately. Of course, with all the iPhone 3G rumors, it’s to be expected, right? ;) Not only the 3G rumors, but firmware 2.0, and the App Store are quite popular subjects as well.

We’ve gain approximately 100 or more RSS readers, and an additional 9 e-mail subscribers. Not really impressive at all, but what can ya do. Better than nothing.

Within the past month, we were offered to trade affiliation links with four additional website administrators, in which we agreed to all.

Our average returning visitors hasn’t really gone up much, with an additional 80 or so, however, it’s definitely better than losing returning visitors, so I’m not complaining!

Keep on truckin’ to read about all of the new pages, as well as my broken iPod Touch.

I’ve been working extra hard, spending hours upon hours on Touch Podium (at work, home, and school - which is where I am now). Not only have I taken the time to revamp the Touch Podium layout itself, along-side a new logo/header image(see above), but I’m sure you’ve noticed that I’ve spent many hours building new Touch Podium pages, bringing everything to you, with easy access.

The new pages, in order of creation (as far as I can recal), are:

  • FiTotW
Free iTunes of the Week. Pretty self-explanitory.
  • Help Desk
The Touch Podium Help Desk. If you’ve got questions - We’ve got answers.
  • Commercials
All iPod Touch and iPhone commercials. I’ve still got to add all the iPod Touch commercials to this page. I’ve been pretty busy as I’m sure you’ve noticed.
  • Videorials
Video Tutorials brought to you in part by the masses via YouTube.
  • Firmware Comparison
A firmware comparison list brought to you in part by spoonforknife via the iPod Touch Fans community.
  • Repository Sources
A list of all known installer.app repository sources (as of April 1st).
  • Product Support
A list of all iPod Touch and iPhone-related product manufacturers contact information. A work in progress.
  • The App Wish-List
A list of applications and games in which the people of the iPod Touch and iPhone community wish to see on their devices sooner or later.
  • The App List
An intensively large list of each and every iPod Touch and iPhone app known to man. (as of April 12th, 2008)

Since our last report, my iPod Touch has stopped responding, as in, no longer works. I’ll be shipping it out to Apple on Tuesday (tomorrow), and they will be taking a look at it, and hopefully be sending me a new one, or repairing mine. I’ll be without an iPod Touch for the next week to week and a half, so I won’t be able to personally test out any new applications or games, unfortunately.

I’ve got plenty of news to write this morning, so I better cut this one where it’s at.

Happy reading, fellow iPod Touch and iPhone owners! Thanks for coming back. :)

I say Touch Podium is heading in the right direction. I check the blog daily. However, I see little to no activity anywhere else on the site besides just viewing the blog. The forums are dead, but other than that, all of the other pages on the site are extremely helpful. It is one click away from the latest apps, news, and firmware downloads. I think a boost in the forum community would make the site a lot more popular and bring many more people to Touch Podium for more than just a quick view of the blog.

    Thanks toomuchcaffeine.

Dustin, you’re very right. The forums are dead - and it would definitely bring more traffic to the site itself if there was more going on there. I really don’t know how I would advertise or get people to join and talk in the forums more often. If you’ve got any ideas, I’m all ears.

Also, running this blog alone is a helluva job. Running the forums as well, and answering everyone’s questions would just make our (Eric and I) job twice as time consuming. We can’t afford to do so. If the forums were to get popular, we’d have to hire a third (and possibly even a forth) co-worker.

Thanks, however for the kind words. :)

I would assist with the forums but I only specialize in IP .Board. I also own my own IP .Board skinning business as well as work for one of the IPS resource managers at http://invisionmodding.com. If you guys had an IP .Board licence I would have helped out. Sorry guys! =/
