iPhone OS 2.0 Includes GPS-Like Live Location Tracking

by Jody Mitoma on April 5, 2008 at 5:38 pm

iPhone Live LocationHere’s a nifty addition! According to current beta testing developers of the SDK software, there is a new live location tracking feature that will automatically track the user’s current location in the MobileMaps.app on a persistently updating basis available on iPhone OS 2.0.

Here’s an example. Say you were driving down Broadway in New York, NY and you opened up the Live Location Tracking feature on your iPhone. You would see a blue dot following your exact location, updating constantly as you were to drive further down the road. Basically, you can think of it as a GPS, but without the directions being spoken to you.

This is definitely something to look foward to in the upcoming firmware update from Apple!
