Pwnage Released, Videoed

The Dev Team, having not sold the IP to an undisclosed commercial third party on April 1st, have finally released the Who’s-Your-Daddy of jailbreak apps. Dubbed Pwnage, this Mac application (Windows version coming shortly) takes advantage of an exploit discovered in the low levels of the iPhone’s firmware that bypasses the signed code checks and allows the device to run any kind of arbitrary code, signed or not — including firmware. This allows users to roll their own firmware versions and use iTunes itself to restore from the resulting IPSW file.
Engadget has a great hands-on video demonstrating the finalized first version of the app that you’ll want to check out (especially if you’re a Windows user and can’t get it yet but want something to drool over.)
Pwnage is available straight from The iPhone Project who are hosting the app.
