Commercial Jailbroken Apps Take IV: iPhoneRecorder

It seems pretty trivial now, thinking back to when Labyrinth went pay (for all of $7) and what a self-righteous stink it raised from the entitled No Give, All Take squad. Since then there have been a number of attempts at commercializing apps for jailbroken devices. Caterpillar and Blackjack, and even TouchPad Pro have gone pay (though in the case of the latter, only for the media server, which is a Windows app and technically doesn’t really count.)
Now, along comes iPhoneRecorder by DreamCatcher (no, not the video game company) leaping into fray. iPhoneRecorder is a voice recorder for the iPhone (you don’t say?) and it does seem to have a few nice features about it. It can record in MP3, MP4 or AAC formats and features built-in audio gain so it can be used from a certain distance (at the expense of increased ambient noise). It can also record directly to ringtones, and you can even E-Mail your recordings.
How much would you expect to pay for something like this? $10? $20?? Wait! For an unlimited time only, iPhoneRecorder can be yours for just 6 easy payments of $5.00! Or, y’know, you could just cough up $29.99. If you really, desperately need a voice recorder and Vnotes just doesn’t do it for you, then this looks like it could be your ticket. Otherwise, $30 … that’s a whole case of premium beer, man.
UPDATE: DreamCatcher have been kind enough to inform us in the comments here (thanks, guys!) that due to feedback from the public, they are planning on slashing the sticker price to $15, which seems a much better price point, and might even bring it within the realm of reasonability considering its pretty strong feature set.

Boo!
The whole point of jailbreaking, especially come June, is because of its easy accessibility and FREE stuff. I mean, I bought a touchmods mic for the SIP VoIP app, but that was hardware, for an app, it should be free. If these people want to make money, sell the app when firmware 2.0 comes out, not now. It dampers reputations, just look at the flaming that was done to the other people who made paid apps. And eventually someone might find a way to distribute it free probably. I don’t know.

Apple have released a new trio of television spots for the iPhone, maintaining its face time with the hoi-polloi. The new spots feature the usual Apple stylings and polish and each have their own theme to showcase particular features.
Bet shows off the superior internet browsing capabilities of the iPhone under the guise of winning a wager between friends.
In Music Store, the narrator draws a comparison between the iPhone and traditional brick-and-mortar stores for browsing, previewing, buying and downloading songs.
Finally, Brilliant puts the focus on the Google Maps application and its directions and WiFi-based Locate Me feature.
As always, the new spots are available for your viewing pleasure by clicking one of the above links, or by going to Apple’s iPhone page.

What did what h4xor said about commercials have to do with the recorder app?
Random, much?

Jody and I worked on an article for the new ads at the same time, and I accidentally posted mine, which I deleted a short while later. I guess for whatever reason he C&P’ed it. Why he bothered, or posted it here, I’ll never know.

We are the author of iPhone Recorder.
We sold the application for $29.95 but now, considering the public opinion we have decided to reduce the price to its half, that is $14.95.
If you have any comments or concerns about iPhone Recorder, feel free to email us. Your feedback is important to us in order to get an idea of how to make iPhone Recorder a better product for you. Many of iPhone Recorder’s features and significant portions of iPhone Recorder’s interface have been heavily influenced by comments from users. So if you have a grand idea for a new feature, or a better way of doing something, please drop us a note.

[...] Last December, a new camera app was released for the iPhone. It was called Camera Pro, and it featured many of the features that the built-in iPhone camera app should have had, such as digital zoom, burst mode, self-timer, and so on. It was an excellent upgrade to the built-in camera app — but it came at a price. $30, to be exact, which ain’t cheap, even for a premium iPhone app like this. (Something that the fine folks at DreamCatcher found out recently.) [...]
