Firmware 1.2 to Be Leaked Soon?

by Eric March on March 26, 2008 at 8:30 pm

H4XX0R3D!According to sources close to iPhone Atlas, a team of hackers may be able to make a functional Firmware 1.2 (eventually to be released as 2.0) available to the jailbreaking public.  The firmware, which is normally only available to registered developers who have been accepted into Apple’s $99 development program, ordinarily renders iPhones registered with the SDK as development units inoperable as a phone and tied irrevocably to the SDK until the official release of Firmware 2.0.  The hackers however state that they are able to circumvent this drawback through the use of the iPhone Dev Team’s exploit tool Pwnage and allow the firmware to be run fully functional on currently-jailbroken iPhones.

It is important to note however that this firmware will be strictly for the iPhone, so iPod Touch users will largely be out of luck unless someone uses Pwnage to further modify the firmware to be Touch-friendly.
