Poll Results: Over 60% of iPhone/Touch Owners are Running Firmware 1.1.4

by Jody Mitoma on March 25, 2008 at 3:10 pm

Apple iPhone School recently started a poll (March 19th), which asked its readers what firmware they were running on their iPhones/Touches.

I’ll tell you this right now, the results are not as I would of imagined. I am personally still running firmware 1.1.3 (jailbroken), and thought there were many more still running this firmware, and lower firmwares. But, according to the poll results, approximately 63% of you are running the latest available version of Apple’s firmware; 1.1.4.

Here are the results of the poll:

I am still using 1.1.2 because it is still using a real jailbreak, and is more efficient than 1.1.1 so I am staying with 1.1.2 until a real jailbreak for 1.1.4 is out that is really stable, and can support everything the older jailbreak does without a ton of bug fixes.

That is a smart move. I’m actually upping to 1.1.4 right now. I’ve been too lazy to do it earlier, hehe. Or just, too busy. I’ll let y’all know how it goes from within this comments section. :)

    Also,
I’ll be a good 75% of us will move up to 1.2.0 (or 2.0.0) when it is released. ;)

Well, bare in mind that from observation, majority of the iPod touch owners are kids, or non tech savvy people, who cares nothing besides fancy wow effects, I am not surprised to see the results, at all. Though, 1.1.3 is not that much better off compared to 1.1.4 anyways :p

I agree, Jody. When 2.0 comes out, I will update pretty quickly, not just because of the fancy stuff, but because I actually have faith that 2.0 might actually be good and could make jailbreaking less valuable. But who knows?

And you make a good point, Andy. I really don’t like how some of the kids act foolish about having to “be amazing because they are using a soft upgraded 1.1.4″
It just is a pet peeve of mine when people act that way and want the fancier stuff, or the higher number firmware. Bleh.

Panda, you may want to just restore your iPod, mate. Hold the Home and Power buttons together.

Best of luck - and sorry to hear about your experience… May I ask what you were trying to do?

Andy, you’re right. Most of the iPod Touch owners _are_ kids. I, personally, like the new features that 1.1.3 brought us too, though. :)

Dustin, yea, definitely. I’m even willing to say that it’s probably that up to 90% of the people will upgrade to 1.2.0 (2.0.0). Very probable.

I don’t know if the App Store will make up for jailbreaking, though, because, jailbreaking reveals FREE apps… Albeit, the App Store will reveal mostly free apps - there WILL be apps that will cost you to purchase… I’m thinking that it may be possible to get these apps via Jailbreaking 1.2.0 (2.0.0). If this is possible, there will be a LOT of jailbroken 1.2.0 (2.0.0) iPod’s out there… Guaranteed!

True, Jody, but I just hope there isn’t a huge fiasco over jailbreaking when 2.0 comes out. When 1.1.3 came out, everyone tried “jailbreaking” and a lot of them were very buggy and problematic, and none are even a solid jailbreak, just soft upgrades. I wish it was just like the good old days where there was one method, and everyone knew what it was, and how to do it. Clean cut, simple. Now, it is too hectic. I get headaches just thinking about it. Let’s hope for the best in 2.0

It wasn’t always simple, though. At one point, to jailbreak firmware 1.1.1, you had to go through a 72 or 74 (I forget exactly) step process. Remember that. :)

You get headaches thinking of jailbreaking?.. Try installing the Vista Maximus theme! lol. :D
