RiP Dev Uncover Built-In iPhone Screenshot Capability

Here’s a new one for ya: The iPhone has built-in screenshot capabilities. It’s just disabled in production phones. RiP Dev, authors of Caterpillar, have discovered hidden code within the iPhone’s 1.1.3 and higher firmware that allows it to take screenshots with a certain button combination, and have released an app that unlocks this functionality.
Once installed, the functionality becomes unlocked (there will be no icon on your home screen). All you need to do is hold the HOME button while you flip the ringer switch on the side. It doesn’t matter which position the switch is in at the time, just flip it when HOME is pressed, watch the screen flash, and you’ve got yourself a screenshot stored in your camera roll in TIF format. Naturally, because of the mechanics involved, this will only work on the iPhone with firmware version 1.1.3 or higher. Touch users will still need to use Capture.
The screenshot unlocker is available on the RiP Dev repository. (http://repository.ripdev.com/)
