Genesis4iPhone Released to Testers

Well, would you look at that? Not a few hours after I post about it (and less than 12 since he announced it), ZodTTD has released genesis4iphone to the beta club! I’ve had a chance to play around with it, and so far it’s not half bad at all! As expected, the speed isn’t quite up to par, requiring a frameskip of 3 or so to make most games playable — but this may change significantly once the Dev Team releases the new toolchain and Zod has a chance to recompile with it.
The UI is quite familiar to anyone who’s used any of his other emulators, which is a good thing for consistency’s sake. The controller overlay is a bit crowded, but that’s to be expected, since it emulates a full 6-button Genesis controller.Compatibility of the emulator is spotty; of the dozen or so games I tried mostly at random, Virtua Racing, Ultima IV, Space Harrier, and James Pond 2 and 3 didn’t work. Admittedly, one or two of these may be a bad ROM or an incorrect ROM format. (The desktop emulators I use are pretty forgiving) though Virtua Racer did have display problems. On the other hand, the original James Pond, as well as Sonic the Hedgehog, Marble Madness, Samurai Showdown, The Chaos Engine and Turrican all worked just fine and were quite playable. Of course, this is still a first-release beta, so there are likely to be plenty of changes and tweaks before its public release.
Overall, it looks like Zod is right on track for another great emulator release. Check out half a ton of screenshots after the break.

coool!! And I have a question, why can’t you rate the posts anymore? Can’t wait until the pubic release.

We no longer feel rating is necessary. Also, we haven’t been getting enough ratings to keep the system up and running.

What kind of file format does it use?

From what I’ve been able to tell so far it can accept SMD and BIN.

Check the beta section of his message board and read the sticky instructions for how to add the beta repo to Installer or Cydia.
