Another iPod Touch Catches Fire
by Jody Mitoma on March 16, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Ryan F. of the Engadget community, informs that his iPod Touch also had a burning issue just a day or two after Max.
Engadget reads:
…
Similar to Max’s experience a couple days ago, tipster Ryan F. says his iPod caught on fire from the inside. Ryan says he plugged it in to charge and it showed a dead battery, then the screen went white and the device started to get super hot, so he unplugged it but it continued to burn. The fire ended up leaving a blackish orangish circle in the screen, along with a brown dent in the metal on the back (pictured after the break). Ryan’s going to try and track down a better camera to take some better pictures of the damage.
Keep reading for a shot of the back (although, barely visible, it suposedly has a burn mark).

is this only on jailbroken iPods? Maybe the apps runnng took more power to run since apple didnt plan on their iPods doing those things

The two known incodents happened whilst the iPods were being charged. I highly doubt it has anything to do with the fact that they were jailbroken. But then again, I could be wrong.

i have a first gen. ipod touch and the screen appears to have the same burn mark. I took it back to best buy and they refused to fix it saying that it was physical damage caused by an internal dent with no proof with an external dent on the screen or on the back i am still currently fighting this and have gotten nowhere.l
