Apple Rejecting iPhone SDK Applicants

by Jody Mitoma on March 15, 2008 at 1:26 pm

Rejected!iPhone Atlas states that they’ve been receiving notification that some of their readers, let alone one of their very own writers, have been receiving letters of rejection whilst applying for the SDK.

The rejection letter reads:

“Dear Registered iPhone Developer,

“Thank you for expressing interest in the iPhone Developer Program. We have received your enrollment request. At this time, the iPhone Developer Program is available to a limited number of developers and we plan to expand the program during the course of the beta period. We will contact you again regarding your enrollment status at the appropriate time. Thank you for applying.

“Best regards, iPhone Developer Program.”

It’s really unfortunate that Apple isn’t allowing for more downloads of the software development kit. Albeit, 100,000+ downloads is a hell of a lot, I don’t see why they don’t just let the downloads keep rolling in. Not only would it be more money in Apple’s pocket, it’d be more money in the pocket of potential developers, and more applications and games available for the iPod Touch and iPhone, which in turn, would make the products more worthy and valuable.

Correction; they are not preventing people from downloading the SDK, but merely the ability to acquire a security certificate and a copy of the 1.2 firmware, in order that they can get their applications onto an iPhone/iPod Touch. Anyone (with an Intel Computer..) can download the SDK, compile applications and run them on the simuator, all they need do is make an account and download the 2GB file.
