Play/nyc Wants a Million Bricks in Your Pocket

Carrying around several dozen huge sets of Lego™ blocks around wherever you go just so you can play with them at any given time is a little cumbersome at the best of times. Plus, people give you weird looks. Not that I’d know or anything. Fortunately, Nicholas G. Panas of play/nyc has a better solution in mind and has come up with a way to fit a million bricks in your pocket: Lego™ for iPhone. Imagine being able to pick and colour your blocks, zoom and rotate your budding construction from your own designs or pre-defined sets, even set it in motion! How about competitive building games? Sharing your designs? Creating your own Lego™ people? Nicholas has got your number there, too. Overall the idea of a Lego™ sandbox in my pocket sounds fascinating.
Don’t get too excited yet, though. All of this is purely in the conceptual stages right now and has gone only as far as being entered into the Art Directors Club and One Show 2008 as professional spec work. Not a line of code nor anything beyond their Flash website has been designed. Nicholas is “open to communications” with the Danish brick company, but so far does not appear to be actively pursuing any licenses. Am I the only one who really hopes something real comes out of this? Come on, I’m not the only one who would still like to play with Lego™, right? Guys?
