Gameloft To Be SDK Launch Partner?

by Eric March on February 19, 2008 at 10:17 pm

GamelAPPLEftThe recent Game Developer’s Conference has been interesting for gamers the world over. In and amongst the various GDC keynotes was that of Michel Guillemot, CEO of big-time mobile gaming outfit Gameloft, whose keynote presentation shed some light on their future plans to support the iPhone (and by extension, the iPod Touch) as a mobile gaming platform. Michel mentioned that they are looking to add support for the iPhone alongside their recent adoption of the latest iteration of Nokia’s N-Gage platform, and added that they will be looking to release a few WiFi-enabled games before the year is out.

Of more tantalizing interest however was his slide presentation, which depicted one of their games displayed on an iPhone. Now, it is entirely possible that this was simply a mockup of a planned future title, but when it comes to the forthcoming SDK-packing Apple Event, there is one thing that we can be reasonably sure of at this point: Apple isn’t likely to serve up the main course without doling out some appetizers to go with it. The logical conclusion to this line of thinking then is that Apple has already partnered with several dev houses to pump out those appetizers. Given Gameloft’s development history with previous iPods, it isn’t at all unreasonable to conclude that they will be churning the code mill once again and delivering some gaming action on launch day. Wishful thinking? Maybe. We’ll know for sure in a couple of weeks. In the mean time, have a drool at this slide.
