SDLGNUboy Lets You Get Your Game (Boy) On
by Eric March on February 15, 2008 at 10:40 pm
He may have dropped his Genesis emulator, but zacaj certainly hasn’t dropped out of the scene. Coming straight out of left field is SDLGNUboy, a Game Boy emulator for the iPod Touch and iPhone. Sporting some classic spinach-green Game Boy action, SDLGNUboy also features Game Boy Color support as well. iPod Touch Fans user Bernstein229 has the scoop:
zacaj has released a GB and a GBC emulator. Instructions how to use.
What you need:
sdlgnuboy (attached at the end of this post)
Terminal app
gb or gbc roms1. Place sdlgnuboy in the same place as Applications and private
2. Put ROMs in any place you like
3. In terminal type cd / (press enter) ./sdlgnuboy /(wherever you have your rom like var/root/Media/GB/SuperMarioLand.gb)
4. If you followed the instructions right you shoulkd be playing your game by now.
For those of you playing the home game, SDLGNUboy does not yet have a GUI. It is run entirely from a command line, so break out Term-vt100 and brush up on your shell commands. Unixphobes can take heart, however: zacaj is currently working on a proper Spring-loaded GUI interface, and users are already beginning to contribute controller skins, so you too will be able to break out those Pokemon ROMs soon enough.
Those of you who aren’t afraid of a command prompt and a little grunt work can download the emulator here.
